#025 (Sep. 2023) Desonians love games. Is this the future of DeSo?

DesoNews-025-loterie-web-30cm

What works on DeSo? What are the Desonians passionate about? What are the topics that generate the most comments?
Games is the answer.

To find out, we observed the posts and comments of the most active users in terms of discussions for a week. We selected those who published on average at least one post per day during this week, or at least 7 posts in 7 days. We found 105. We then reviewed all their posts to see what they were talking about, and we also noted the number of comments generated for each of their posts.

We found that, of the 105 users, 30% had received at least one comment for each of their posts. 33% received less than one comment per post. 37% have not received any comments on any of their posts. 9% did not generate any engagement of any kind: no comments, no diamonds, no likes.

This approach allowed us to observe that certain users, due to the quality of their posts, are real drivers of the platform, while others do not generate any engagement.

Figures taken from the @Altumbase website.

DeSo's Powerhouses: The 14 Creators who generate the most comments

During the 7-day period between September 12 and 18, 2023, 14 users generated between 13 and 2 comments per post. Here is their ranking:

  1. @DeSocialWorld (700 days on Deso, 4,037 followers): 18 posts per week about games, lotteries, etc. 13.3 comments per post.
  2. @CloutWomenUnite (848 days on DeSo, 3,109 followers): 18 posts per week, about games, greetings, and thanks. 10.5 comments per post
  3. @Bitclout_artist  (874 days on DeSo, 3,157 followers): 19 posts per week about greetings and thanks. 6.9 comments / post
  4. @DeSoDuels  (36 days on DeSo, 87 followers): 14 posts per week about games. 6.5 comments / post

Users who don’t generate any engagement

Conversely, we also see that certain users who are among those who publish the greatest number of posts do not generate any engagement. For various reasons. These are:

@CoinGeeks (stats): 650 posts per week. Zero comments.

@GoldberryLyrics (posting lyrics of @Goldberry, an indie folk band from St. Louis, MO, USA): 165 posts per week. Zero comments.

@XENFT (posts about XEN crypto): 164 posts per week. Zero comments.

@JeffreyPalomarez (random thoughts about life): 82 posts per week. Zero comments.

@3ESIGN (posts about 3D printing and friend.tech): 78 posts per week. Zero comments.

Regarding @CoinGeeks, the reason for the absence of comments is that their publications, although very useful, do not require a response. This is also the case for @DeSoMirror, which also publishes very useful statistics.

As for the others, it is clear that their publications do not raise any interest.

Some people are merely there to take advantage of donations

There are thus dozens of accounts that enter the statistics of “active” users (Daily Active Users, or DAU), giving the illusion of a certain activity but which contribute nothing to the social life of the platform.

Among those who do not generate any engagement, we can notice that some people are merely there to take advantage of donations given to the most active users. They tag #post2earn on random posts in order to receive donations. These are, in particular, @Pickleballb (108 posts with random photos and reposts) and @SuperiorDee33 (24 posts about sports).

Valuable creators who don’t generate comments

However, there are creators whose posts receive no comments and who nevertheless provide very useful content. As we have seen, these are those who provide statistics about activity on DeSo: @CoinGeeks (all purchases and sales of CC) and @DeSoMirror (figures and curves of the evolution of the activity of different apps).

coingeeks-desomirror

This information is valuable, and the people working on it deserve to be encouraged more. Indeed, others before them (like OpenProsper) offered this statistics service for free for a long time and were finally forced to abandon it due to a lack of profitability.

Games: the popular niche

How can this data move things forward? What avenues and what strategies can we deduce from this to make the platform more popular?

We see that 3 of the 4 accounts that generate the most comments offer games.

It therefore seems that games are a popular niche among the Desonians.

The core team and app developers would therefore have every interest in promoting games and the creation of new tools related to game creation.

Desonians moving to other platforms. Time to stop the drain.

Let's face it, the very low number of active users is a real problem that Desonians face every day. And the DAU curve not only does not go up but it has continued to go down for a year.

A few days ago @iodacasamia was talking about « the absence of a communication strategy by the core team » as one cause for that:

The "Deso" machine moves without a straight direction. It seems that only core team projects have prominent visibility. There is no organic strategy of promoting the blockchain, the apps and contributing developers. There is no decent Wikipedia page, the website is a useless showcase. People do not know Deso and especially the data shown by @DeSoMirror... They speak clearly. It seems that Deso is the place to talk about what Elon does, when Bitcoin will reach 100k and how close the web 3 revolution is. For two years now. »

@SwiftD replied: « Marketing will have a big part to play, but it's clear the foundation are not willing to put in that effort until they have re-engineered the L1 platform. That is pretty typical if compared to other projects.

Two years may seem like a long time horizon but for something as complex and as ambitious as this, it's really just the beginning. »

ActiveUsers-DesoMirror-sept2023

Chart by @DesoMirror

Although it is true that two years is just the beginning, other similar decentralized platforms are getting better results in just a few months. So what is happening is that many of DeSo's most creative users are moving to other platforms like friend.tech, where there are more active users and more impulse for investing.

While improving DeSo technology is very needed, there is also an urgent need to do something to retain the creators, mainly those who are DeSo's powerhouses. Otherwise, by the time the technology is ready, there will be no more life on DeSo.

Targeting things that work and encouraging them

How to get back on track? In our opinion, to boost activity, it is about targeting things that work and encouraging them.

By observing the posts of the 30 creators who have the best rate of comments per post, we can see that the topics that work well are:

1. Games, lotteries, poll games (@DeSocialWorld, @CloutWomenUnite, @DeSoDuels, @ColourBlobs, @CivilEngineer)

2. NFT battles (@SharkGang, @MrDeso)

3. NFTs (@DeSoDuels, @Panini, @GaikeNFTcreations, @SharkGang, @Pixelangelo, @ElrickErikose, @PSYCOart, @Maxiyo,

4. Personal views and stories (@nader, @Pixelangelo, @Kaanha, @ryleesnet, @brootle)

5. CC trading (@Panini, @CivilEngineer)

6. Expertise (creators who are experts in an area): comic strips (@Moggel), photos (@ElrickErikose), personal growth (@PSYCOart), archaeology (@ArchaeologyFacts)

7. About DeSo: (@nader, @ZeroToOne, @Ugottaloveit, @brootle)

We didn’t include "Greetings" and "Thanks" posts in the list because it is something that users naturally do, but it’s a fact that they generate many comments.

It is interesting to notice that crypto, Web3, and decentralization posts aren’t on the list because these topics don’t generate much interest or comments, contrary to what one might believe.

Pornography needs to be behind a wall

We also noticed two users posting porn:

@MyBillionDollarBaby (Porn NFTs including teenagers) and @powershotz (bondage porn video). The later has been banned from DeSocialWorld but is still visible on Diamond.

Some images are shocking, and we think these kinds of accounts should be behind a "wall," requiring confirmation before being accessible.

Other creators will be featured in the next issues

We remind you that the analysis concerns observations carried out over a week and therefore does not necessarily reflect all activity on DeSo. Indeed, certain active members who do not post as frequently are not mentioned in this study, although they are nevertheless quality assets for the platform. Others may also post from multiple accounts, which lowers their participation rate. For example, @PhilippeTahiti also posts for @MrDeso (NFTs battles), DeSo News, and other accounts, and since last week, he has introduced his grandson @Manuarii (7 years old), who tells his life in Tahiti through drawings.

Similarly, DeSo News only generates comments on the day it is released. Two days later, its account becomes calm again. However, it is an active user.

We are therefore aware that many active users are not mentioned in this study but we will have other opportunities to do so.

These sightings are a snapshot of life on DeSo at one point in time.

It will be interesting to do it again in a few months to see how things are progressing and to feature other creators.

We hope this information will help the Desonians and the platform as an ecosystem.

P.S. A question to the Core Team:

We came across a reserved profile (not yet claimed) that posted 22 posts during this week.

This is @daminous_purity.

Oddly enough, he only posts on Diamond: diamondapp.com/u/daminous_purity.

On DeSocialWorld, his page is empty: desocialworld.com/u/daminous_purity

We asked the DeSocialWorld admin why. He replied, "I can't explain yet. Asked the team to check."

@mossified, any explanation for this conundrum?

#024 (Sep. 2023) How to make money on DeSo

MrDeso-RainigMoney

How to create posts that earn the most diamonds

Diamonds are a native DeSo feature that is such a good idea that X (the new Twitter) copied it. When we write a post, we all hope that it will be rewarded with many diamonds, if possible in sets of at least 3!

What kinds of posts receive the most diamonds and engagement? To find out, we looked through the first 100 posts from the Diamond and DeSocialWorld hot feed and sorted them by number of diamonds received.

We present to you the 10 posts that received the most diamonds. You can take inspiration from it to try creating your own posts.

As the popularity of each creator has an influence on the number of diamonds they receive, we have indicated the context for each, i.e. the price of their coin, the number of their followers, their number of days on DeSo and if they are verified with the blue check.

We have excluded official messages from Nader and the core team from this ranking since they are a separate category.

1. @JordanLintz: Promise of an article on the influencer market on DeSo, if his post receives at least 100 diamonds.

Diamonds received: 78.

Diamonds-02-Gatucu2

@Gatucu: « This is a declaration of intent on my part, especially for newcomers, I am nobody. I'm not an influencer, I'm not the guy who's going to tell you where to invest in cryptos, I lost enough to advise, although, on second thought I learned a lot, I keep it to myself 😉.

I'm not an artist or creator of anything today, maybe in the future I dare to create something, for the moment I only invest. And you will say, why are you here? Why do people invest in you?

Why I'm here is easy to answer, where you could talk about you with great artists, imagine talking to Picasso, Van Gogh ... in their time.

Why do they invest in me? I don't know, maybe because I'm loyal and I support every project I believe in. I'm going to keep doing the same thing for the moment and I'll incorporate music videos through YouTube if the apps allow me according to my mood, I love music and I know it's like doing the same thing as on one more social network, I only have this and of course I'm going to do whatever I want without offending anyone.

I'll tag my HOLDERS in case they expected something else from me 😉
I still believe in DeSo, and you? »

The inevitable Comeback

The curve in the number of DeSo users continues to decline this month and the faithful Desonians continue to be active on their favorite platform. It is true that despite such a small number of active members, the engagement rate is admirably high.

As @nader said last year, « There is much higher engagement per follower on DeSo apps

It's crazy how small economic incentives like micro-tips or social token purchases can have such a strong impact on engagement. Imagine when DeSo is 1M daily active users. Early adopters may be Bieber-level popular… »

NodeMAU-2B

The core team continues to be confident that their efforts will ultimately pay off. " It's inevitable ".

@Mossified is convinced that the next new features will make a difference and trigger the rebound that everyone is waiting for.

« They have no idea what's gonna hit them with the next generation of DeSo apps — which will ideally demonstrate the full power of DeSo's stack and capabilities which weren't around in the first few months of BitClout 1.0 to capture imagination...

NFTs, Tokens, Token-Gated Content & Chats, Subscriptions, Mobile / PWA UX, Associations (polls, reactions, leaderboards, etc.), <Post/Curate>-2-Earn, Long Form, Open Algorithms, Cross-chain DEX, and so much more.

And the overall app-level UX / UI is going to be so much better, which I will personally guarantee. »

Ed Moss is not the only one to believe it. Since the start of the year, @JordanLintz, a successful PR pro, has been investing tens of thousands of dollars in creators accounts every month. Read the article below about it.

  • P.S. Hats off to @DeSoMirror who is the only one to provide us with statistical curves of the evolution of activity on DeSo.

In the past, @OpenProsper has offered this service for free on their very comprehensive website. They eventually stopped because it wasn't profitable. If they had set a subscription for accessing certain valuable stats, maybe they could have continued. We think this is what DeSoMirror should do to survive: create a website with valuable information available by subscription. Many Desonians, developers and others, would surely be willing to pay to continue having access this information.

DeSoMirror reply: « I’m slowly building my index db on which I can base the stats. I'm a one person team doing it in spare time :-) »

An expert in celebrities marketing has been investing tens of thousands dollars every month in celebrities Creator Coins

Over the last 30 days, Jordan Lintz has purchased $26,874 worth of celebrity creator coins. And he invested at least that much in the previous two months.

One might wonder why he invests in celebrities who have not claimed their account on DeSo.

When Bitclout was created, the core team created 1,500 celebrity accounts who have tons of followers on Twitter. Only about 80 of them have claimed their account. Many of them eventually did a rug pull, selling their entire profits after hundreds of Desonians invested in their CC.

Jordan Lintz is a public relations professional. His company @HighKey enjoys significant notoriety in the industry. This means that his job is to boost the popularity of companies and celebrities. What makes him think that the celebrities he invests in will claim their account on DeSo? Does he have information we don't have, or is this just a bet on DeSo's future success?

Jordan Lintz has promised to publish an article next month on the phenomenon of creator coins and their future development on DeSo.

In the meantime, he agreed to answer our questions during a quick interview conducted on September 5, 2023.

  • DeSo News: Despite the constant improvements and new features, the DAU of the platform has been steadily dropping for a year, what makes you believe that DeSo is finally going to be a success?

Jordan Lintz: DeSo only needs 1 killer app to bring user retention. Building decentralized social is a marathon and not a sprint.

  • DeSo News: We noticed that a lot of your investments are in Creators Coins from celebrities who haven't claimed their account yet. What makes you think these celebrities will eventually claim their accounts and become active on DeSo?

Jordan Lintz: Assuming decentralized social media is inevitable, so to us every celebrity being apart of it. We plan to be apart of the early stages by investing early like we are!

  • DeSo News: How much money have you and your brothers invested in DeSo so far?

Jordan Lintz: Millions in total, some before the crash, but a lot at current levels too.

  • DeSo News: As a successful businessman, what specific advice would you give to someone who wants to be successful on DeSo

Jordan Lintz: I’d say start posting and stick around for the ride! Think long term. At least 5 years.

Jordan Lintz was interviewed recently for an article titled “The 5 Things You Need To Create A Highly Successful Career As A Public Relations Pro”. Interview by Michelle Tennant Nicholson, Chief Creative Officer of PR company Wasabi Publicity, Inc.

Question: Because of the role you play, you are a person of great influence. If you could inspire a movement that would bring the most amount of good to the most amount of people, what would that be? You never know what your idea can trigger. :-)

Jordan Lintz: Decentralizing social media. The mainstream social media is set up where the owners monopolize your content, your account and your identity, and you don’t even own your account on these mainstream platforms. This will result in the masses moving to a blockchain that supports them owning their own account and content, where they will be the direct beneficiaries of all the monetizing of their content.

We are a part of DeSo which is the first layer-1 blockchain built from the ground up to decentralize social media and scale storage=heavy apps to billions of users.

  • « It’s official. I’m committing my entire salary for the rest of the year to $deso buys. $200 a day along with bigger buys..
All in anticipation for Creator Coins 2.0
My brothers and I started @HighKey 7 years ago. Growing year over year in the social/online space. Our services include top tier PR (including social) & Celebrity Marketing.
Taking pride in being at the cutting edge of everything to do with online presence & establishing an 8 figure empire. We have established ourselves as leaders.
I’m fully convinced this is a “TheFacebook” 2.0 moment in history 2 decades later. From one great social revolution to the next, the future of social will be decentralized on-chain.. DeSo success is inevitable & @nader is my best bet to do a Zucks 2.0 major move. »

  • « I am in 100% belief that DeSo will be the revolution of social media 2.0… 20 years after The Facebook »

  • « I have a confession to make: I’m addicted to buying DESO! It’s to hard to pass up the greatest investment of all time @ ground level 🍯 »

  • « Buying DeSo feels like your making a massive move in the future while everyone sleeps in the present.
    Time will tell! »

From now on, new users don’t have to worry about purchasing DESO currency in order to use a DeSo app.

@mossified announced it:

« Users can get free DESO either by linking their Metamask or by verifying their phone number. Soon, we’ll make this easier by passing a CAPTCHA instead. The small amount of DESO that is sent to them will cover thousands of onchain transactions, which means if they’re that active anyways they’ll likely at some point receive some diamonds that’ll pretty much cover an entire lifetime of transactions on DeSo. »

Don’t wait for success, create it!

While some Desonians complain that the promised success is not coming quickly enough, others don't wait: they go out and create the conditions for their success themselves.

@MrDeso: Since we launched the Mr. Deso Challenge on September 4, purchases of our Creator Coins have started pouring in. Good things come to people who wait patiently, but better things come to those who go out and get them! 🔥🔥🔥

Here are the results of the first 3 rounds (only valid votes, i.e., votes from CC whose value is at least equal to $8.00).

#023 (Aug. 2023) Those who give up and those who stick through thick and thin

DESO NEW STARTER GIFT

Old Desonians remember that when Bitclout started, new members received a small donation from @merlin to be able to test the platform. Finally, this starter gift was abandoned because it attracted too many scammers. Well, it's back, and thanks to the new starter gift, new members no longer need to buy DESO to test the platform.

Core Team member @mossified announced the new starter gift on August 19. To benefit from this gift, users must provide their phone number. This is to prevent people from creating multiple new accounts just to receive the gift.

However, faced with the reluctance of many people to provide a phone number, Mossified said: « We are currently scoping a captcha flow, so we can skip the phone number verification step. »

This gift will allow people who do not have a crypto account to test the platform. It is therefore a very good initiative to widen the audience for DeSo.

SCAMMERS, SPAMMERS, WHAT SOLUTIONS?

NFT SCAMS
A common mode of scamming involves appropriating an image to create an NFT without giving credit to the owner of the image. One thing that we also often see are images from image banks transformed into NFTs. The value of an NFT stems from its uniqueness. So legally downloadable images (like those found in image banks), no matter how beautiful, transformed into NFTs have practically no value since anyone can create the same NFT. We understand that the least we can do is ask that the creator of the NFT honestly indicate the origin of the images.

A creator of similar NFTs got reprimanded on DeSo recently and apologized to the community. That is why we will not mention his name.

@DesoScams has started to help eliminate scams from the $DESO platform.

If DesoScams buys a coin (0.0001), it is a warning to potential investors to tread with caution.

So if you want to invest in some CC, always check their holders list first.

IMPERSONATORS
Another classic form of scam involves creators impersonating people who have a large number of followers on mainstream social media.

For example, two weeks ago, someone opened an account claiming to be Isabella, an influencer with 23.3k Twitter followers. I contacted the real Isabella to ask if she had an account on DeSo. She replied, « I don't know what DeSo is. So, no, it's not me. »

isabella-profile
isabella-twitter

So, don't blindly buy CCs or NFTs that look promising. Engage with the creators. Ask them to put the link to their DeSo account on their link tree, website, or other social media. Make sure they really are who they say they are.

To make their imitation more believable, some use the same username as well-known creators but just replace one letter.

This is how someone impersonated @CivilEngineer's DeSo account by replacing Civil's lowercase L with a capital i. The two typographies are identical: CiviIEngineer. This fraudulent account has since been banned.

SPAMMERS
Unfortunately, we also see more and more spam. Spammers respond to your posts by advertising products and services that are unrelated to the topic of discussion.

For example, in the thread regarding the question "What motivates you to stay on DeSo? A spammer replied: "Hey guys, if anyone is interested in crypto, stocks, or real estate, check this out [referral link]. »

spam

A vigilant Desonian, @SupremP, immediately chided, "It's nerve-wrecking as fuck. Can you not spam your referral links by doing this constantly, off-place, and from so many multiple accounts elsewhere? Does it really pay off for you? I doubt it. Thanks for your consideration. »

GHOST TAGGERS
Something else akin to spamming that annoys a lot of Desonians is people who ghost tag. That is, they tag a large number of creators and then delete the tag. So that their publication appears in your notifications but you do not appear in the list of tagged people.

To solve this, it is usually enough to ask them to stop tagging you.

DIAMOND SHOWERS: BLESSING OR CURSE?

About once a week, I get twenty notifications all at once. At first, I was quick to look at which of my posts had gotten so much engagement, but now I know it's not about engagement but about diamond showers. Some are happy with it, some are not.

💎shower on, for example, 20 posts represents a gain of $0.0022 x 20 = $0.044. That is about 4.5 cents. Or 9, for 💎💎showers.  I ask: is it worth invading someone's notifications to give them a few cents?

In real life, no one would like someone regularly knocking on their door to offer them a few cents, right?

Why do people do this?

On the one hand, to attract the attention and recognition of creators, and on the other, to increase their engagement statistics the easy way.

From my point of view, these automated showers have a much less positive impact than diamonds given manually, in a very specific way, to a particular post.

HOW TO INCREASE THE DAU? MARKETING OR NOT MARKETING?

The number of current active members has not increased for two years. Worse, it tends to decrease. We are currently, on average, only 500 active every day on DeSo. This causes a lot of frustration. People wonder why the Core team doesn't launch a big marketing campaign to get people to sign up. The Core team replies that the time for this campaign has not yet arrived. They wait for the technical part to be fully operational, in particular to prevent scammers. To which the Desonians respond that the platform is sufficiently complete and functional to satisfy new users.

@jodybossert: «  Copycats are popping up more and more. I’m not sure things need to be perfect before that big marketing push comes. I feel we already have more features than everyone else and a solid roadmap of what’s to come, so let’s bring on the rest of the world to enjoy the ride with us before we lose this unique, first mover advantage opportunity. Marketing above the rest will get harder and harder when there are more to market against. Word of mouth is the greatest marketing of all so let’s get people here now before we have to steal them from elsewhere. »

@Ashdigital (Core team): « First is important for sure, but it's not the be-all end-all that determines success.
We have a lot more ways to win than just being first.
We definitely haven't been idle and continue to push forwards.
Competition will increase, and we'll need to continue adjusting along the way.
As far as marketing goes, it needs to be well thought out and strategic.
There are a lot of other chains that spend a lot more on marketing than us and have fewer users. It's not as cut and dry as spending x on marketing and getting y in crypto.

Outside of Ethereum, which hasn't done much marketing until recently, traditional marketing tactics don't always work in crypto.
Ethereums marketing has always been building killer apps which sparked an influx of capital and users.
We saw it with ICOs, NFTs, DeFi, etc. That's what sparked the marketing flywheel.

That said, we've thoughtfully improved the branding and messaging over the last year or so, which sets up for much more effective marketing campaigns in the future that retain users. »

INCOMPREHENSIBLE JARGON
From the start, the Core Team's priority has been to convince developers to come and build on DeSo. So that all their communications are done in a technical jargon incomprehensible to ordinary mortals.

So @Randhir tweeted a Web3 lexicon of commonly used terms:

Airdrop = Freebies
Blockchain = Web3 DBs/Data Store
DAOs = Web3 Orgs
Mint = Buying assets
NFTs = Web3 media assets
Private keys = Web3 passwords
Public keys = Web3 usernames
Smart Contracts = Web3 apps
Tokens = Web3 platform assets
Tokenomics = Web3 biz models

Well, I think Randhir's explanations are just as confusing as jargon terminology. Devs will be devs!

HOW MUCH DOES USING THE NFTz APP COST?

Only one node, NFTz, is focused on the efficient presentation of NFTs; the other primary nodes offer the option to mint, present, and sell your NFTs.

By receiving a $500K funding from Octane Fund in September 2021, the Krassensteins were able to create a genuinely professional application, which is crucial for anyone who is serious about succeeding in this market.

How much does utilizing NFTz cost?

NFTz user guide: « For the use of NFTz we have set a fee of ~0.0006 $ per transaction. We have set a fee of ~0.002 $ for a post and ~0.004 $ for a post combined with a mint.

NFTz charges 1% royalty on your NFT. »

The Krassensteins declared in August 2023 that they will devote their time to developing collectz.xyz, an NFT application, on Lens Protocol (Polygon), a different platform. However, they continue to maintain their DeSo accounts, and NFTz is still up and running.

FRIEND.TECH : A COPY OF BITCLOUT IN THE EARLY DAYS

A social network called Friend.tech is housed on the Base blockchain. The application, which is only available on mobile devices, enables users to link their X (Twitter) account to a Base address created especially for the purpose.

Users can purchase CCs from others in the form of shares, following the same logic as DeSo. Customers can access private chats and special content in particular thanks to this. During the beta period, registration is only permitted through invitation.

All Desonians who have used friend.tech, Twitter's web3 platform, agree that it resembles an early version of Bitclout. Additionally, similar to Bitclout, the mania peaked in its early days before declining.

@Krassenstein: « Has anyone tried out friend.tech yet? It reminds us a lot of Bitclout in the early days. We are both on there experimenting with it. »

@ItsAditya: « itsaditya_xyz there. this looks like bitclout but worse to me lmao »

@jodybossert: « I still haven’t noticed a social feed, just a broken chat tool (broken in that you only see the messages of the creator, not the others in the chat). So yeah, VEEEERY early BitClout. »

@BenErsing: « Yes, Im there. Pretty unimpressed personally. »

Randhir on Twitter said that several of his DeSo friends have bought shares of his account on Friend.tech.

Randhir: « Friends from DESO riding the friend.tech wave after all the bots and traders have made an exit. »

He then tempered: « For the record, I have 200$ on Friend.tech and 100x that on Deso.
If they improve their UX or our DESO heroes @kuririn and @ItsAditya build better frontends, this might change. »

MOST PEOPLE WILL LOSE MONEY ON FRIEND

Some web3 specialists see in Friend all the signs of a Ponzi and predict a catastrophic end for the majority of investors. Only a handful of unscrupulous gamblers will get rich.

Alex Valaitis (AI and crypto tech) sur Twitter: « I worked with DeSo (the project behind @BitClout) for 9 months.
I can say with confidence that the @friendtech hype will not sustain.
Friend Tech did not learn from Bitclout & is already showing signs that is doomed to repeat the same mistakes.
Similar to Bitclout, Friend Tech is leveraging bonding curves to help drive hype.

What is a bonding curve?

It's basically a clever way of drumming up more demand for an asset.
When an asset (in this case a social token) is first listed, it is very cheap…
However, as new tokens are issued, the price increases exponentially.
This preys on human psychology perfectly:

1) The early buyers know they are getting in cheaper, so they buy a bunch of cheap tokens up front (rapidly increasing the price)
2) Then people see this rapidly increasing price and they ape in thinking this is the next big thing!
This causes the price to skyrocket even more (making people in middle of curve feel like geniuses)
Now the hype factor is at its peak…
3) But at this point, the early buyers are already up 100s if not thousands of % on their investment.

And eventually somebody early in the bond curve cashes out.

This then craters the price of the social token.
And that is how you get your "rug pull". »

Friend.Teck transactions curve by Dune (above) reminds a lot Bitclout curve at its start in March 2021 (below): a great and quick upsurge followed by an also great and rapid decline.

According to Alex Wice (crypto trader), most people will lose money, and eventually the hype will die.

Alex Wice on Twitter: « Since the big names receive most of the value up front, they aren't incentivized to continue maintaining their chats.
This is the same thing we saw with dozens of celebrity NFT projects who promised ongoing "utility ».
Instead they take the money and bounce.
What will happen in the coming weeks/months is that we will begin to see the Friend Tech ponzi fall apart.

- People will rug pull their tokens
- Influencers will stop maintaining their chats
- And eventually the hype will die

In the process, MOST people will lose money.

Some people will make money but sacrifice their reputation.
And even fewer will make it out with money and their reputation intact. »

ENGAGEMENT ON DESO HAS BEEN DECLINING SINCE OCTOBER 2022

DeSo keeps getting better, yet the number of its users keeps shrinking.
But Nader does not change course. He believes the tide will eventually turn. His efforts will pay off. The DeSo DAU will fly away. It's inevitable. Unwavering optimism.

He posted last week:
@nader: « I’m seeing a lot of people starting to take DeSo more seriously than they ever have. Just a matter of time. »

And yet, the transaction curve says something entirely different: a continuous fall since the beginning of October 2022.

Were are curious: what happened from August 1 to October 1, 2022?
The transaction curve was rising exponentially. Since then, it's been a slow, continual descent to the bottom of the well.

All-time DeSo blockchain transaction number trend: from March 1, 2021, to August 24, 2023. Stats and curve by @DeSoMirror

Desonians who have been active for a long time get discouraged and quit.

Like @ceponatia (586 Days on DeSo) posted on Friday: « I’m officially switching to lens. If you hold my coin or @Snarebox i encourage you to sell asap. I’ll be liquidating all DeSo assets on or around Monday. It’s been occasionally fun pointing out how worthless this project is, but continuing to spend time and money on it would simply be retarded. »

WHAT MOTIVATES YOU TO STAY ON DESO?

We asked this question last week to the Desonians: What motivates you to stay?

Here is a selection of their answers:

@Moggel: « Easy answer! Because the platform is so small (it has so few users), it's easy to become famous among them! »

@ArchaeologyFacts: « Clean from ad’s »

@ShadyAcres: « Oh that’s an easy answer!!! COMMUNITY
I’ve often said, and truly mean…
If Deso goes to hell today and I lose everything… it’s still worth it.
I’ve met so many real genuine friends here, and many acquaintances as well. Better than in real life people. »

@TheETHNomad: « Despite the cons, this is still the most utility driven Blockchain I've used. As an artist DeSo gives me the freedom & tools needed to engage my community & monetize in news ways. It's also a small niche right now and I've gotten to know many people I consider friends here. I will miss the small community vibe someday. »

@Clark_Renfort: « I initially wanted to have a new space to show people my work and try to build my business with the combination of a coin.
I wanted to find a way to market lamps that I am selling online, and build a community.
That whole vision has stalled and we are just here talking to people we have gotten to know.
But I keep hoping. »

@iodacasamia: « because DeSo has Creator Coins and I am an artistic Content Creator without the use of artificial intelligence.
So I think it is the right equation to stay here. »

@MayumiJapan: « I genuinely appreciate the opportunity to meet and interact with the amazing people here in this community. Different countries, ages, occupations, all the backgrounds… but every one here are the people who have taken a courageous step forward into web3 and I like the people who challenge new things.
And here, many people show me new and interesting things and also very supportive about what I say and do… and I really appreciate that 💙
So… I stay active here ^_^. »

@GaikeNFTcreations: « Hi it’s a good question wich I also thought about a lot last years. Actually for my personal account @gaike I build friends. Daily friends talking and sharing details of their life. I love the community ❤️
For this account I am glad that I can express my creatives with NFT series. In the “normal“ life, I am making portraits of used post stamps. But it’s always huge (more then 1 meter) and intensive so then is digital art a good combination. »

@BrookM: « Mainly the people. I enjoy my interactions and have befriended a lot of people from all over the globe.
Photos, jokes, music, interactive posts, memes, art…
The LACK of POLITICS! »

@Ugottaloveit: « What keeps me here and Excite for the future is Simple.
We Will never be Twitter, or Facebook, or Instagram, or TikTok
That's why we will succeed. The Toxicity is at all time highs and We do not need that here. We can stay Small and still thrive. As long as we continue to set the tone. Toxicity will never be comfortable. Bots and Hate will never thrive here. Their accounts will die so fast that they will have to either join us or go somewhere else.
This is why I am here. We will change the world. We will Bring much needed encouragement, support, and Knowledge. »

@SwiftD: « DeSo is building an extremely user-friendly environment.
DeSo will attract Web2 users like bees to honey because the UI and service offerings sound, look, feel like products and services they are familiar with but with the added injection of that financial incentive unique to Web3. »

@WhyIsItTrending: « - They are always innovating.
- Community members are friendly and very welcoming.
- Blockchain transactions are quick & efficient.
- Creators present genuinely good content and are open to feedback and ideas.
-💎s, polls, and CC technology of course. »

@Octavie: « In my Microsoft field of work, community is very very important. It is my second family. Besides meeting new and interesting people, I have fun sharing knowledge. And with everything in life there are ups and downs. And boy, do I have had downs lately! But that is no reason to leave. I am here to stay. The sun will shine tomorrow and the ups are coming. New doors will open and life will get better. And if I can make someone else happy, then... 🙏 »

WHAT ARE THE MOST POPULAR NODES ON DESO?

DeSocialWorld, Desofy, and Diamond share the vast majority of users.

The Desonians published an average of 19,633 posts and comments per week in August 2023, or 2,807 posts and comments per day. 42% on DeSocialWorld, 22% on Desofy, 21% on Diamond, 12% on unknown nodes, 3% on NFTz, and 1% on Bitclout

On average, 3,486 unique users were active on the various nodes, or 498 per day.

30% on Diamond, 27% on Desofy, 19% on DeSocialWorld, 19% on unknown nodes, 3% on NFTz, and 2% on Bitclout

We can therefore see that Diamond has the most unique users but that DeSocialWorld users post more than those on Diamond, and that Desofy is between the two. The other nodes are far behind, except for the "unknown" nodes, i.e., unidentified. Nodes are said to be unknown when it is not possible to identify them.

@DeSoMirror: "When constructing a "submit post" transaction using the backend API, a frontend can fill in the "NodeId" field. If it's left empty by a frontend, that's when the node is unknown. »

All the stats are provided by DeSoMirror.

HOW TO APPEAR IN HOT FEED (continued)

In the previous issue, we highlighted the fact that three-quarters of posts appearing in the hot feed belong to creators with the Diamond app's blue tick. It's worth clarifying, as @StarGeezer aptly pointed out, many of those with the blue check mark are long-time OG accounts; therefore accounts that are most likely to have built a network of engaged followers. These creators mostly have a relatively high Creator Coin price. This is why we can think that the price of the CC is a decisive data in the hot feed algorithm. So if @nader or @Highkey engages with your post, it gives it more weight and therefore more chances of being selected for the hot feed.

The value of the diamonds received by a post certainly also weighs in the algorithm.

@mcmarsh: “It's engagement that weights it in the hot algo. If a post has a few replies from people with reasonably "high" cc price that's normally enough (especially with the active numbers around at the moment)”

@StarGeezer: "The skew by coin-price would also explain why topics many of us are not interested in reading socially (e.g. crypto 24-7) receive much more prominence... as it's likely the whales and core team are more likely to engage with them.

The same can be easily seen with their pet projects - which only need one or two engagements to effectively be pinned to the top of a hot feed.

@tijn had done a brilliant job with the (now-retired) hot feed that @DeSocialWorld was using, which was much more fair.

DSW now use @Desofy's hot feed, which, though I believe they have changed the coin-price multipliers, doesn't feel like it gives lower-coin-priced-creators with the same chance that Tijn's did. »

So, a good tip: buy your own CC to increase its value.

#022 (Aug. 2023) How to get the Blue Check Mark and be featured in the Hot Feed

After an eleven-month break, DeSo News, the Return!

Since the shutdown of the two main magazines on DeSo: @BitsTODAY (last issue August 10, 2021) and @Krassenstein's daily videos (last video August 10, 2023), Desonians have nothing left to keep up to date with the news on the platform. It is true that the number of active users is still very low (between 700 and 800 per day) but the new tools developed by the Core Team and the announcement of new features, (in particular BitClout 02 (new version of the Creator Coin) give us hope that things can change. This is why we have decided to resume the publication of the @DeSo_News website and blog.

What are we going to talk about?
In short, life on DeSo. The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, with humor, sex, rugs, and rocknroll. In simple terms, understandable by everyone (no communication for developpers only; follow my gaze...).

In this issue:

  • How to be featured in the Hot Feed
  • How to get the Blue Tick
  • How to recognize Creator Coins worth investing in
  • Are HeroSwap fees too high?
  • The Top 100 Creators of the Week. Are you on the list?
  • Scams and rug pulls are back
  • Is it OK to mass tag?

HOW TO BE FEATURED IN THE HOT FEED

We basically have at least three options for navigating DeSo: the “Hot Feed”, the “Following Feed” (posts from creators you follow) and the “New” or “Recent Feed” (the most recent posts) . Of course, the Hot Feed is the most watched since it includes posts that are considered "must sees" (like Core Team announcements) and posts from well-known creators.

Most creators are never mentioned in the Hot Feed and would love to know how it works to get into it.

We reviewed 100 Hot Feed posts to see the characteristics of the creators there. The most obvious result is that the vast majority of lucky winners (71%) have the sacrosanct Blue Check mark awarded by @Diamond app to verified creators. Of the 29 accounts that don't have it, 4 were created by verified creators and 4 tagged a verified creator.

We can therefore clearly see that the Blue Tick is the royal door to entering the Hot Feed.

Although @DeSocialWorld has its own creator verification process and awards its own Blue Ticks (so creators can get a Blue Check mark on DeSocialWorld but not on Diamond App and vice versa) its Hot Feed is generated by @Desofy (DeSo mobile app). We have noticed that their Hot Feed is similar to Diamond app's. Same creators, same posts. Which suggests that it is Diamond's Blue Check mark that prevails.

bluetick-meme

How do you obtain the famous Blue Check mark?

The makers of the Diamond app do not provide any information about this.

We asked two creators who recently received their Blue Check mark how they got it.
They both replied that they did not know exactly but that they assumed that you must, above all, be active and have a lot of perseverance.
Both have blogs and create NFTs.

BlueTick-longo

@Longo posted a to-do list to put the odds on your side:

ACCORDING TO MY EXPERIENCE: HOW TO GET THE BLUE MARK "VERIFIED PROFILE" IN DESO APPLICATIONS.

First of all, keep this in mind: For a platform that manages cryptocurrency (real money) wallets, verifying someone is a big responsibility and there is no perfect way to do it yet.

Think that it is possible that you are verified in Desocialworld and not in Diamondapp. Desocialworld gave me a blue tick long before DiamondApp (a year ago?) and DiamondApp gave it to me 1-2 months ago. But I really don't know how it works since other OG's more active than me don't have it yet.

MY ADVICE:

• PLACE EXTERNAL LINKS IN THE BIO: connect to your public profiles on other Social Platforms, to a personal website, to the websites of your company or association. It is the first way to show that you are who you say you are.
• BE YOURSELF & INTERACT SOCIALLY. Explain who you are and your motivations and be active within the community. Honestly show your interest in other users and what they do, start conversations, engage, and be yourself by opening up.
• FIND AND SHARE YOUR UNIQUE VALUES. Find your way to engage others while having fun... Share your best, your irreplaceable personal value.
• THINK LONG TERM. Be patient and persistent. As @MarioNawfal says: Do good, be consistent, be solid (or something like that).
• CLAIM YOUR VERIFICATION: Sometimes I have also claimed my verification in "angry" posts, losing faith, after more than 1 year here... I don't know if it has helped or not.
• DON'T THINK TOO MUCH ABOUT GETTING VERIFIED!: Lastly, don't worry too much about the blue tick. It means something, but in the meantime, when the community knows you and vice versa, being verified does not affect your interactions.

@GaikeNFTcreations: « I really have no idea [how to get the blue tick]… just wait wait wait stay active and pray. »

BlueTick-Gaike

Anyone can apply for verification on VerifiedCreators

A DeSo app called @VerifiedCreators offers its own verification process that requires the purchase of an NFT for DESO2.00. The "verified" creators don’t get a Blue Check mark, only a link that they can post on their profile.

CONDITIONS (VerifiedCreators Whitepaper):
«  Anyone can apply for verification on VerifiedCreators regardless of their social class.
There are two types of "verifications" on VerifiedCreators: Personal verification and project/business verification. Personal "verifications" are for individual creators, and the latter is for projects/businesses. VerifiedCreators is designed with zero tolerance for scammers, bots, or duplicate accounts. No creator can have more than one personal verified profile but can instead apply for multiple verifications as a project and have all the project accounts linked back to their personal verified profile. To apply for project verification, a creator will need to have a verified profile.

Every verification must go through a validator to maintain a 100% accuracy rate.
Verification validators are people trained and hired by the foundation to ensure there's no chance of a scammer or bot gaming the system to become verified.

HOW DO YOU RECOGNIZE CREATOR COINS WORTH INVESTING IN?

There are different criteria for determining the intrinsic value of a Creator Coin: the notoriety/popularity of the creator, the price of the CC, the percentage of the FR and the potential for growth of the CC value, and of course, making sure the creator is not a scammer.

We analyzed the CCs of the first 100 posts on the Hot Feed, i.e., from 56 creators.

We multiplied the price of each CC by the coefficient of their FR (Founder Reward) in order to obtain the total price. For example, if a CC is worth $10 and the FR is 15%, the total price is $10 x 1.15 = $11.5.

We then divided this total price by the number of followers of each creator in order to have a price per follower. We selected prices below $0.01 per follower. Then we have eliminated the creators that are not verified and do not provide in their profile a way to verify them (like a website, blog or other social media). Here is the ranking of the best values for this series. After their name, we added the following info: Blue Check mark by Diamond or DeSocialWorld (yes or no), total price, FR, and number of followers.

ARE HEROSWAP FEES TOO HIGH?

A creator named @SupremeP tested the service six times and felt very disappointed with the experience because of the surprisingly high fees he paid (from 7% to 52.4%). In fact, it seems most of the gas fee comes from BTC transactions, not HeroSwap, as we will explain below.

What is HeroSwap?

HeroSwap is a DeSo no-login cross-chain swapping service.
Currently supported currencies include: Bitcoin, Ethereum, USDC, Solana, DeSo, DesoDollar.

The 6 swaps performed by @SupremeP (all swaps: BTC to DESO):

- Test 1: swapped $8.78 / received $7.31 (20.1% fee)
- Test 2: swapped $12.76 / received $11.92 (7.1% fee)
- Test 3: swapped $5.03 / received $3.98 (26.4 % fee)
- Test 4: swapped $13.62 / received $11.73 (16.1 % fee)
- Test 5: swapped $6.60 / received $4.62 (42.9 % fee)
- Test 6: swapped $7.47 / received $4.90 (52.4 % fee)

@SupremeP expressed his concern because the fees were much higher than the 1-5% fee advertised on HeroSwap website.

Core Team member Ed Moss (@mossified) replied that the fees include the network (gas) fees from the BTC transaction which is the big part ($2.27 in average)in the case of those small swap amounts.

@mossified:
« All of your tests are getting eaten up by network fees, has nothing to do with HeroSwap (the actual HeroSwap margin fee on this was less than 2%).
Please preview your swap before initiating, especially with tiny amounts like this which have far higher subjectivity to getting eaten up by network fees. »

We recalculated the fee taking into consideration the highest Bitcoin transaction fee ($1.68) according to Bitcoin Fee Estimator.

Here it goes:

- Test 1: swapped $8.78. $8.78 - $1.68 = $7.08. Received: $7.31. No extra fee.
- Test 2: swapped $12.76. $12.76 - $1.68 = $11.08. Received $11.92. No extra fee.
- Test 3: swapped $5.03. $5.03 - $1.68 = $3.35. Received $3.98. No extra fee.
- Test 4: swapped $13.62. $13.62 - $1.68 = $11.94. Received $11.73 (extra fee: 1.8%)
- Test 5: swapped $6.60. $6.60 - $2.27 = $ 4.33. Received $4.62. No extra fee.
- Test 6: swapped $7.47. $7.47 - $1.68 = $5.79. Received $4.90 (extra fee: 18%)

We see that for the #1, 2, 3, and 5 tests, the amount received was higher than expected.
For the 4th test, the amount received was 1.8% lower than expected.
For the 6th test, the amount received was 18% lower than expected.

Conclusion:
As the Bitcoin transaction fee is a flat fee ($1.68 max these days), it is not worth it to swapp small amounts.
Only the 6th test fee was really problematic. Why? We don’t know. The rest were within the fair range or lower.

So @mossified argument of «  the network transaction fee eats your swap for a tiny amount » makes sense.

How much would be HeroSwap fee for larger amounts?

We read in the HeroSwap FAQ that "the fee calculations are dynamic and not easily anticipated. It is thus important to preview the swap before initiating it." Heroswap offers this option.

Last month, @highkey posted a screen capture of a swap he did on HeroSwap. He sent $7k USDT to Heroswap, and received $6587 in DESO. That's a $413 fee (6.3%).

What was the difference between the network transaction fee and the one for HeroSwap? We asked @mossified this question, but we have not received any answer yet.
According to GasFeeNow, the gas fee for USDT is about $2.
It means that the HeroSwap fee for that $7k swap was $411 (6.2%).

Since then, the screen shot of @Highkey’s transaction has been hidden by its author, but @StarGeezer could retrieve it using NoteMe tool called « Uncover hidden content ».

@nader:
« Soon you will be able to trade BTC, ETH, SOL, USDT and of course DESO directly on-chain.
That's right, soon you'll be able to trade $DESO on DeSo.
No more CEX'es [Centralized Exchanges], no more ruggings-- all orders transparently stored and matched on-chain thanks to DeSo. »

SCAMS AND RUG PULLS

scam

Recently, @ShadyAcres posted a warning against some « scammers running wild again ».
The scammer was impersonating a playback singer from India and deceiving people through the creation of various fake accounts. After deceiving various creators to invest in his CC, he rug-pulled, and all investors lost their money.

@ShadyAcres:
« Be careful for scammers. They are running wild again. A few bad people here ruining it for everybody.
Take that effort and apply it towards something fruitful and good instead of just trying to be deceitful and steal. »

@ShadyAcres posted a list of accounts which all belong to the scammer.
Since then, all mentioned accounts have been blacklisted on DeSocialWorld.

@DeSocialWorld:
« On @DeSocialWorld there's no room for
- People impersonating real people
- People running multiple profiles pretending to be real people

With help from people like @Randhir @desoscams @Gainer95 @CivilEngineer, we were able to blacklist quite a few today. Check the below post for details.
Luckily, the majority of people around here are fantastic. But now and then, we have to take measures like this to:
- ensure the community stays safe
- give a signal to other scammers (existing and future) »

@Randhir:
« More than impersonating, I would emphasize the intent to defraud people - the clear rugpull after getting investors that is nothing short of fraud.
Making investors lose money and over time, even the few investors investing in CCs will go away hurting Creators still here.

RichaSharma was impersonating a playback singer from India (by subtle sharing of photos from the Internet) and Desodit was a copy of CircleIt that they were pretending was a new app they'd built. After we called it out, he dropped a small note in the comment that he would develop it further. Surely, there was no intent to do so because if there was, he would first do some work and then publicize it and also acknowledge that it was a clone before creating a profile and opening the Coin for purchase. »

IS MASS TAGGING OK ?

Do you ever get your name tagged in a post with dozens of other creators?
Does this bother you? What do you do in these cases?

@PhilippeTahiti:
« As far as I'm concerned, I started blocking anyone who did this to me, then I changed my mind. What I do now is leave a comment simply saying, "Stop tagging me". »
I have found that spammers tend to apologize and never do it again. »

SupremeP:
« well, i've been observing a few of these mass-(ghost-)tagging spammers, & i found that their engagement stats, & their 💎-income are well above avg. i conclude that their tactic pays off, for them; if you look at it, unemotionally, from a "return on investment"-perspective;
i'm quite sure that's why they engage in this spamming activity, in the first place. »

#021 (Sep. 2022) Bullshit Awards

Bullshit Awards Sept. 2022: @Nader Wins Gold, Ashdeso Wins Silver.

First published on September 21, 2022.

The purpose of these Bullshit Awards is not to stigmatize people but simply to point the finger at unfortunate attitudes in order to remedy them. As the @Krassenstein brothers say with great wisdom and common sense:

“Never be afraid to speak up when you see something you don't like. Not speaking up is always worse. It's how we resolve those issues, come to common solutions, and become stronger because of it all, that will define our success. »

For this first edition of the @BullshitAwards, Nader wins the gold medal for having stolen a username for the second time, thus showing that his formula "Not your keys not your content" also applies to his Naderland. Core Team member @ashdeso won silver for claiming "My DMs are always open" when we tested and saw that his claim was bogus.

Nader Wins Gold

On September 15, @Petrh, an OG user with over 3000 followers, realized that one of his username (@DesoDollar) had been stolen from him by the Core Team and replaced by @DesoDollar_. He denounced this theft in an open letter addressed to @Nader which sparked a great movement of indignation and solidarity in the community. Nader, after the fact, offered him $200 compensation for this username that the Foundation needs to launch its stablecoin called Deso Dollar.

Petrh pointed out to Nader that he could have negotiated the price of the name BEFORE taking her and suggested that a fair value for the name would be $1,000.

It was then that a user by the name of @BigMikeR35 who had absolutely nothing to do with this case sent $800 to Peth to end this injustice by paying the difference. He posted a video in which he explains his gesture of solidarity. Having seen the video, @Dylanjaggerlee, a Core Team member, refunded Big Mike.

Questioned from all sides, Nader explained in a long post that the Foundation could be required to take usernames if it needed them and that they would keep this right of seizure until the platform reaches 100,000 active users.

It turns out that Nader had already taken the username @PokeDAO from @mp3 under identical conditions, i.e. without contacting the owner of the name. Nader, after the fact, had paid $200 to @mp3 then ended up going up to $1,000 after a loaded negotiation.

@mp3:
« Good luck negotiating a price when the person you are bargaining with already has what they want and you literally cant get it back. In reality we call that theft and its a crime. Imagine me robbing someone then saying "hey sorry next time ill ask, were good right?"

@mp3 posted the conversation he had about this with Nader. Read it here.

The @krassenstein brothers commented on this case the very next day in their Day 539 video:

For them, “the way Deso went about it was entirely wrong ».

Nader justified his action by saying that "Sometimes there are names that the Foundation needs that are clearly held by a squatter that is unresponsive to contact."

But the fact is they never tried to contact Petrh.

« Because DesoDollar username was owned by Petrh before Nader created Deso Dollar, » said Krassenstein, « it should be 100% up to Petrh to decide if wants to sale it and what he wants for it.

I think maybe we should have some kind independent community board, with some set of rules, maybe voted on by Deso community members that should decide on identity swap matters no matter how many daily active users we have. ».

REACTIONS FROM THE COMMUNITY

This surprising act by Nader prompted many outraged comments. Here are some examples.

@Lilover:
gosh thats a bit disgusting, doesn’t sound very decentralized to me

@mcmarsh:
Doesn’t sound anything like business practice either.
Disrespectful.

@RealYogi:
"Not your keys not your content »
We all know who constantly kept on repeating it.
Looks like @nader is not just a lier but a thief/robber also.

@paulburke:
They've done this many times before, and will continue to do it whenever it pleases them. You don't actually own usernames on DeSo, despite all of their marketing.
If they had any respect for decentralization or the community they would have asked you to buy it on @NameTrade but they don’t.
@mp3 you should be screaming from the rooftops about this shit, as it completely negates the value proposition of your service.
Real decentralization matters.

@mp3:
speechless really. numb. not surprised. tired. ashamed. disrespected. invalidated. demoralized. over it.

@Sandirose:
This blows my mind. How does something like this happen?

@thorsten:
This. Is. Unacceptable.

@Oltion:
I wasn't around for weeks (not like I used to be) then I login again only to find something like this. It's like you guys are trying hard to make us leave.

@edokoevoet:
This is not good for DeSo’s reputation. There are more elegant ways to resolve this

@kuririn:
I just jumped here after a couple of months to see how DeSo is doing and see this. I don’t feel ready to come back yet.

@Rhynelf:
Wow! This is sooooo concerning. Everything against what DeSo stands for.
@nader what happened to “not your keys, not your content”
You didn’t own those keys. You stole them and shame on you for doing so if this is really true what happened.

Ashdeso Wins Silver

bullshitawards-silver-zirkels-477X283

The silver medal was awarded to @ashdeso for falsely claiming that he answered all questions and that his DM box was always open.

Devs and OGs, not to mention simple users, have complained repeatedly since the beginning of the lack of communication from the Core Team. @ashdeso (member of the Core Team) defended himself by saying:

"Critique, suggestions, feedback? Feel free to post or DM me,” he claimed. "My DMs are always open if you have suggestions or comments to make. »

The creator of Bullshit Awards, @PhilippeTahiti, who is also the editor of @DeSo_News, regularly needs to ask questions of Nader and the members of the Core Team to write his articles. The thing is, untill now he never got a response. Recently, he contacted several members of the Core Team, including @ashdeso for an article comparing the different social apps on DeSo. Again, he received no response except a terse "Thanks for sending" from @ashdeso, 24 days after Philipe DMed his questions and 4 days after he posted his article "What's the Best App on DeSo?" on @Zirkels.

We understand that the members of the Core team do their best and that their job is not easy. They are often the victims of criticism from the community. Most devs and OGs who left DeSo complained about the lack of communication from the Core Team. This is probably due to the fact that there is no spokesperson whose role would be to answer questions.

We believe it is urgent to remedy this recurring problem.

Nader should:

1. Post the org chart
2. Tell the community who is the official spokesperson
3. Commit to respond officially via the spokesperson to the questions and concerns of the users at least once a week.

If you enjoyed this article, don't hesitate to invest in @PhilippeTahiti's and @BullshitAwards Creator Coins!

Diamond has the most unique users with an average of 213 per day. Followed by Desofy (150), Bitclout (109) and DesocialWorld (92). Based on stats for the week of August 29 through September 4.

However, the most dynamic app, the one with the most posts and comments per day is DesocialWorld with an average of 1266 posts and comments. Diamond comes in 2nd place (730), 3rd Desofy (710) and 4th Bitclout (564).

For all applications, the highest activity occurs on Wednesdays and Thursdays. The lowest on Saturday.

GAS FEES

According to @DeSoMirror and @DesoNinja, the average cost for an action (post, comment, repost, like, etc. ) ranges from $DESO 0.00 to $DESO 0.000039.

On Diamond and Beyond it is $DESO $0.00.

On DesocialWorld and Love4rsc, it is $DESO 0.000002 ($0.000012). This means that one can perform 83,333 actions for $1.00.

On Desofy, it is $DESO 0.000039 ($0.00023), ie for $1.00 you can perform 4,348 actions.

We do not have information on the gas fees of other apps.

FEEDBACK FROM USERS

@ECOE:
You know what, after 9 long months of just having my Android phone and DeSoFy and pinning for desktop PC to be back online, I still have my phone with #DeSoFy open beside me at all times. The "History" on the creator coins @Ribal built into his App is just indispensable to me, PLUS THERE'S HASHTAGS! & I love the fact that when tagging "posted via @desofy" on my posts & re-posts he sends me 💎s & ❤️Likes in return, & it doesn't have a bunch of side-bar ads of the same people showing up again & again.

But sitting at my desk, my entire existence as I do, I usually have 4 to 6 Nodes open so I can track what's syncing up with the blockchain & what's not to monitor the DeSo Ecosystem, though I work mostly through DeSocialWorld & do my $DESO & Creator Coin work through Diamond App because of the reduced gas fees (literally an unnoticeable difference, but nonetheless I believe less; I may save an 1/8 of a cent per year... LOL) & I feel like my transactions are more likely to be recoded to the blockchain with it being a core team developed Node.

@MayumiJapan:
Mainly @DeSocialWorld. their notification setting is very convenient, can find posts in Japanese language, can upload multiple pictures, can edit the posts
To show my DeSo account to the non DeSo users, I use @Gemstori

this is why 💚💜:
the design and the colours♡
Very easy to get an attention ♡
(but there are many problems for Japanese to join and enjoy DeSo…basically many of them don’t trust crypto in general and they think crypto ≒ bad gambling 😆 , and the language barrier)

@mashelenn:
I use @love4src most of the time.
I like the minimalism of this node, the font, the size of the font, the lack of unnecessary details (icons) 💙
In second place is DeSocialWorld.
This node has a lot of cool features and add-ons 🙏

@jodybossert:
I flip between @diamond and @DeSocialWorld since I can only assume Diamond is more up-to-date given their connection to core team, but I prefer DSW because of the larger character limit and the fact that they actually had a documented verification strategy ages ago that they quickly and easily implemented to keep their users happy. @Stori is my favorite, however.

@Panini:
I like to use them all desocialworld, desofy, stori & diamond
#desocialworld on desktop is easy to use. I love their community engagement, seeing the extra info like what node you used and curating notifications options plus the post2earn incentive; although I don't think I am ever close
#desofy looks the best, mobile is the way to go, like seeing general stats, users coin history, the ability to have notifications on phone, plus click on hashtags & now polls is fire
#stori is fun to share the moment, make the quick drawing on the phone - it is the most unique- however I could not only use this node- it will require many updates.
#diamond is currently the most reliable (post should not disappear here) also the hashtags work & most important- normally when I go reply to a post like this I will be on diamond because I don't want to lose it, I do my best to reply. #nodes

APPS AS DESCRIBED BY THEIR CREATORS

We asked all apps creators to describe the strong points of their apps. Unfortunately only 2 of them replied: @EvaSocial and @MemberCash. Thank you, guys, you rock!

MEMBER CASH

« I think the thing users will find interesting about member is that it is not just a node with a few CSS changes. It uses a completely different backend, frontend and database. It reads from other blockchains too and other data sources too.
For members that means
- you can follow users from other social platforms (like twitter, youtube etc) alongside deso users
- the discussion layout is much better - it's a tree format, more like a reddit discussion
- Member ignores the 'Identity Swap' command - if Nader tries to steal your username, Member ignores that.
- native use of tags, so you can subscribe to any tag »
Currency: satoshi
The satoshi is the smallest unit of the cryptocurrency bitcoin.

EVASOCIAL
https://eva-phi.vercel.app/
Eva's long term goal is to make the transition from Web2 to Web3 as simple as possible and target the general public.
Thank you for reaching out. I will be glad to help you on your article. I will begin by saying that Eva is still in beta so it might still be buggy. The long term vision for Eva is to bring Non-web3 people onto Web3, so it is specifically designed for the ease of use for the user. Some specific features on Eva includes:
- Full hashtag search compatibility, meaning that you can search for both posts and users on the discovery channel. Also gives you relevant hashtags based on what is currently being written.
New tab named “Debate”. Every week a new post is selected to be the “Debate Post”. Any users who click on that post will be redirected to that post. These posts will be chosen so that many can argue about it. For example, one post might talk about the politics of Mars and will allow people to discuss about it.
The ability to edit posts after sending them. Eva doesn't have a character limit so your posts can be as long as you want them to be.
Customizable UI (user interface). You have the ability to customize your UI to your needs. Ex: You can change the primary color and the theme.
Instead of the normal latest, hot, and following feed in other Deso apps. Eva also comes with a politics, news, meme, and crypto feeds.

Most features in the diamond app ( Note you can’t buy creator coins or nfts on Eva yet as we are trying to make it as user friendly as possible. However the page will redirect you to nftz.me if you want to purchase an nft.)
The fees rate for each action are around the same as they are on the diamond app. We expect to lower them in the future.
As for the identity level currently it is set to 3 meaning that it can view the user's info and can post with the user having to approve but cannot buy creator coins and nfts without the user's approval.

I would also like to mention that like the diamond app, Eva is also open source meaning that anybody can get the code and contribute to make the platform better.

Some future possible features includes:
The ability to log in with your metamask wallet. This will encourage more Web3 user's to join the platform. Alongside this we can also allow people to use their ethereum or matic NFT's as their profile pictures. We also want to add the ability for creators to create exclusive content for user's that holds their creator coins. A better search engine and a recommended tab so that user's find good content faster. Rewards tab. This tab will give user’s quests which they can complete to earn deso. For example: Post 50 messages on Eva to earn x deso.

Some Extra Information:
Name: Eva
Version: Beta
Framework it was built on: NextJs
Release Date: Thursday August, 18th, 2022
Created by a 13 years old

Eva wants to be the first social media to introduce NFT Staking programs.
NFT staking is the locking of tokens on a platform or protocol in exchange for staking rewards and other benefits. NFT staking allows owners to earn income from their collection while retaining ownership.

OVERCLOUT

Long posts and articles: We support 12k articles for posts and unlimited characters for Articles.
EDIT POSTS: We support it

#019 (Sep. 2022) The bug that worries the DeSo community

A bug in the DeSo matrix is causing the disappearance of transactions: posts, likes, diamonds, NFTs, money transfers…

First published on August 28, 2022.

deso-bug-1-72

For the past two days, developers have been alerting about a bug in the DeSo matrix which is causing the disappearance of transactions: posts, likes, diamonds, NFTs, money transfers… Which caused a lot of concern in the community. The Core Team says they are aware of the issue and are working on it but so far they don’t seem to have a clue as to the origin of the problem which dates back several months.

The discussion started with @StarGeezer realizing that some diamonds he received were missing. But not only diamonds, posts and comments too. He noticed that with the disappearance of his post where he announced the celebration of his 500th day on DeSo, his 3600 followers with a distribution of giveaways.

Other devs and creators quickly responded that they had experienced the same problem.

« I’ve had posts, comments, diamonds, and likes disappear as well », said @gaby. « @Nordian left a comment on a post and it vanished yesterday. I’ve been having to write messages twice so people don’t think I’m ignoring them. :(. »

« Yeah something is for sure wrong » commented @SpunkArt. « I am missing notifications and my giveaway post pretty sure had 34 💎 and now it has 27 💎. I do not know what is going on. Very weird. »

« FWIW, yesterday I transferred Deso from account 'A' to account ‘B’ », explained @Nordian, « and on Diamond App, account 'A' was debited, but account 'B' didn't receive the credit. None of those accounts appeared to have acknowledged the Tx in other nodes.

1 hr later, I repeated the Tx from Bitclout, and it seemed everything worked.

Weird and scary behaviour considering I was transferring funds. »

@Gaike said she had « the same problem last week »; The diamonds he gave and the post disappeared.

« And the same problem with the minting of my 40 NFT’s to giveaway 2 months ago. »

@nathanwells raised the same issue. « I actually have txn logs where stuff disappeared (minting NFTs for my Mint Machine - API responded it was successful but lost in the mempool). Yesterday I sold an NFT manually on Diamond and posted about it and that disappeared as well. This is a huge bug and needs to be fixed. »

@CloutWomenUnite commented that the problem appear on certain apps and not on others: « I am missing lots of notifications and diamonds on @desocialworld but seams to appear ok on the @desofy. »

Many people have commented that this problem has been going on for months and it is becoming urgent to fix it before a large amount of money goes missing. They make calls to the Core Team.

@Lilover: « Been having these issues for a few months now, makes 3rd party nodes scary to use. We need a fix Quick… »

@StarGeezer: « we can't let them get away with this/ignore it. It isn't acceptable. »

@paulburke: « These issues have been happening since hypersync. I've given up on caring about this stuff, tbh. 😞 »

@gaby: « Pls make this a high priority @mossified @nader @ashdeso @LazyNina. 🙏I’ve been having to write messages twice so people don’t think I’m ignoring them. :( »

@StarGeezer: « They've known about this issue for months. Been happening ever since D,D and hypersync hardfork. Very concerning. Won't matter until someone like @dharmesh loses thousands in a transaction. It's the nodes that aren't "trusted". Any mempool (not written to the chain) translations are lost. They know about this and promised it'd be fixed, but hey "coming soon" / "couple of weeks".»

@ItsAditya: « Imagine if it was your CC trade. You thought you made moneys but then get to know txn never made it to block. I and @paulburke have been ranting about this before DAO txns but they never listen. I guess this is a a bug they are well aware of and have no solution of it yet… »

Unfortunately, the developers have been ringing the alarm bells for a long time complaining that the Core Team isn't listening to their grievances.

@Randhir: « I think this is @nader 's fault and the buck has to stop with him. @TyFischer is pulled out of a Dev Advocate role possibly because no one was building anything significant by the time he joined. So, the least that should be done is communicate to the Dev Community what the channels of engagement are (DeSo Discord or that mysterious Slack for example) and whom to tag to get a response, and what the escalation mechanism is. »

deso-bug-2-72

The founder of DeSo, Nader, replied that the Core Team is aware of the issue and they are looking for solutions. In fact, he doesn't seem to realize the magnitude of the problem as he asked StarGeezer if a single post was lost or several.

@nader: « Hey @StarGeezer, we’re looking into this. We’re seeing that nearly all transactions that were in our mempool on node.deso.org have been mining. Do you think a lot of *posts* were lost or just one?

If a post fails to mine, unfortunately all its engagement goes with it. But this should basically never happen. »

If you are wondering what is a mempool...

The mempool (or memory pool) represents the transaction waiting area of a blockchain. Once a transaction is verified by a node, it waits inside the mempool until it is picked up by a miner and inserted into a block.

Thus, the higher the number of transactions within the mempool, the more congested the network. This will notably result in a longer average confirmation time for transactions, as these are waiting to be included in the next block.

@LazyNina (dev du Core Team): « We’re aware of the issue and take lost transactions very seriously. We have engineers on the core team monitoring mempools and block mining 24/7 and are alerted whenever there is an issue. We're continuing to monitor the situation, but these types of issues are very difficult to reproduce and debug. The core team will provide an update when we have further information on this matter. »

At the same time, the official @deso announced a campaign in partnership with @MishaDaVinci to raise awareness of DeSo and encourage new users to test the platform.

Maybe not the right timing if the problem of disappearances is not fixed.

@vampirecampfire: « WHY?! would anyone think NOW is a great time for a rush of new users? Usually that doesn't happen until there's been some major improvements to a place- almost like a celebration. "Yay! We just released this new feature! Let's tell everyone and their mom! 🎉" ».

Is this platform serious?…

#018 (Aug. 2022) MrDesoLeaks - The Secret Road Map

While the long-awaited roadmap is slow to come out, Mr. Deso reveals a very secret one that no one wanted to see.
INFOFICTION.

First published on August 25, 2022.

Last year, I was working as a janitor in a skyscraper in New York. I had accepted the position on a misunderstanding. I thought they were hiring a genitor. Anyway, one day while cleaning the 125th floor, I overheard a business meeting when all the offices had been closed for hours. Casually, hidden behind a potted plant, I listened to find out what was going on. Seven people were seated around a table and what piqued my curiosity was that they were all wearing balaclavas.

I quickly realized that they were up to some dodgy job.

The one who seemed to be the boss was explaining the agenda: how they were all going to get very rich. « The roadmap », he called it.

Feeling it was something big, I started recording with my phone.

Diamondhands, this is the code name used by the gang to talk to their leader, explained that they were going to create a new cryptocurrency. They would mine 8 million of them and they were going to put the price of Clout (it was the name of the crypto) to $144.00. One guy, presumably the band's accountant, pulled out his calculator and exclaimed, "Wow! That's $1.15 Billion! This is getting interesting! »

"Exactly," said Diamondhands. "And we're going to share this bonanza created from thin air!"

To make it as discreet as possible, we're going to share the loot unevenly on 482 anonymous accounts.

Then, to justify the value of Clout, we will create a social network on a blockchain on which it will be the native currency. And the brilliant idea is that we will pre-populate the platform with 15,000 fake influencer profiles stolen from Twitter! »

" You are a genius!! exclaimed the smallest of the hooded.

"Wait, it's not over, let me continue, » cut off the Diamondhands.

“The genius of the platform is that people will be able to invest in users, much like the stock market except that instead of investing in companies , they will invest in people based on their charisma. To get the ball rolling, we're going to use the money we split to "invest" in fake influencer accounts to boost their popularity ratings and « Creator Coin » price. As a result, new users, the real ones, will invest massively in these celebrities and our initial investment on each name will increase proportionally!

We will win on all counts: by creating the currency, by selling the currency and by multiplying our profits on our investments on fake celebrity accounts! »

"All that is fine, interrupted the accountant, but all these profits are in phony money!" How do we turn that into cold hard dollars? »

"I'm coming to that," cut in Diamondhand who had the answer to everything.

As soon as the exchange platforms will reference the Clout, we will make a massive withdrawal. We will convert the trial by exchanging our millions of Clouts into hundreds of millions of dollars! »

"Whoa, that's going to drop the value of Clout!" exclaimed a tall man at the end of the table.

"Who cares," laughed Diamondhands. "We will have already sold our investments!" »

I could’nt take it anymore. I came out from behind my plant and cried out angrily:

“So new users are going to lose everything they invested? Maybe all their savings?! ».

Everyone turned to me. There was a moment of silence. Then Diamondhand in a stentorian voice chuckled, "You thought everyone was gonna get a lambo? Really? Really?! » »

The rest of the gang burst out laughing. “Bwahahahahaha! »

That's when I woke up haggard in a cold sweat in my bed. Phew! That was just a dream. Just a dream…

#017 (Aug. 2022) Is DeSo a Scam?

After more than a year of continual disappointments, can we say that DeSo is a scam ?

The question we have to ask ourselves is: was Nader sincere when he explained that he believed that DeSo was going to compete with Facebook?

First published on August 11, 2022.

mrdeso-scam-web

17 months after the launching in March 2021, most users have lost their investments, and the number of daily active users barely exceeds 1000, can we say that Deso was actually a scam?

To try to answer, we must first define what qualifies as a scam?

Without getting into a legal debate, I would say that if the seller's promise is knowingly a lie, it's a scam.

For example, if a drug seller says that a remedy cures this or that disease when he knows perfectly well that it is false, it is a scam. Or if a company sells investments and says that the remuneration comes from financial investments when they actually come from new investors, this is called a Ponzi scheme, therefore a scam,

So what was Nader's promise?

NADER'S PROMISES

During an interview on Zoom last year, Nader explained that Bitclout was a demo app for testing the validity of a social network on blockchain. After six months of successful testing, Bitclout.com was ready to become one node among many others on a blockchain now called DeSo (short for Decentralized Social).

Nader would be the boss of this new node (DiamondApp) as well as of the DeSo blockchain, which would aim to accommodate all nodes in all countries and in all languages.

Nader promised that DeSo foundation of which he is the president would use part of its funds amounting to 200 million dollars to help financially the developers, the creators of NFTs and the small creators.

Nader mentioned that he was in contact with several NFT platform managers, including Opensea, and that the question was not whether an integration of DeSo on these platforms was going to happen, but when.

In such a way that we would be able for example go to Opensea to buy DeSo NFTs or buy Opesea NFTs and pay in $ DESO.

In interviews with mainstream media like CNBC News Channel, Nader said DeSo was meant to compete with social media giants like Facebook.

How?

As on the blockchain all data is open source, what will happen, explained Nader, is that all developers around the world will be able to access it to create their social networks on the DeSo model. « That can create the scale economy that is needed to actually being able to compete with centralized monopolistic platforms », said Nader. « We can unlock the ingenuity of anybody anywhere in the world, not just of one company: the best researchers in the world can build models on the DeSo data ».

This technological revolution will be, according to Nader, “extremely disruptive” for centralized platforms in a monopoly situation which will have a hard time adapting because they are prisoners of a closed model which relies on advertising and for this reason cannot share their data.

HOW I LOST 3 THOUSAND DOLLARS

This ambitious vision communicated by a very convincing Nader was extremely tempting.

Personally, it seduced me and I started investing in Creator Coins that seemed promising to me. This is what most users were doing: betting on a Creator and hoping the value of their token would go up.

However, I remember talking to someone last year who didn't believe in Creator Coins. Her name is @sandirose, well know very active and talented user. She said that she was not interested in CC and that she would not invest.

For my part, I thought that the main attraction of the platform was precisely to bet, to try, to risk a little money in what seemed to be undervalued Creators, fingers crossed that it turns out to be a good deal.

As a poker player I know it is always risky to bet.

I bet, I started winning and if I had withdrawn my winnings in June 2021 before Bitclout was listed on the exchanges and its value fell, I would have continued the game with a positive balance. But I continued to play hoping to multiply my bets.

Like the vast majority of members, I lost 95% of my investments, concretely, about 3 thousand dollars. It is both a lot and a little. As they always say, "don't invest more than you're willing to lose". I bet according to my possibilities, I lost. I assume.

HAS NADER BEEN SINCERE ?

Nader's promises did not come true. Some optimists say "not yet" come true.

The question we have to ask ourselves is: was Nader sincere when he explained that he believed that DeSo was going to compete with Facebook? Or was his only goal to take the profits ASAP, allowing Core Team members to take extended vacations (as @MaeBeam said in her last post: “I'm on an extended vacation 🙂”)?

I hope he was sincere but given the result - hardly more than 1000 active users per day-, one may wonder.

If he really wanted to compete with Facebook, it is, so far, a monumental fiasco. But if it was to make a mountain of money in a few months, it's a phenomenal success.

So, scam or not? How to decide?

It is very difficult to decide because the information does not circulate. Nader has maintained from the beginning a lack of transparency, not to say complete opacity on what is happening behind the scenes. The only information that reaches us looks more like public relations releases than sincere explanations of the real goals and decisions of the Core Team.

And to compound the lack of clarity, it's unclear among the top Creators, who received an Octane Fund and who didn’t. Because, let's face it, someone who has received funding is in a situation of conflict of interest when he gives his opinion on the Core Team. We are only humans and if I would receive an Octane Fund, honestly, there is a good chance that I would refrain from criticizing those who fund me. Nader, if you can hear me :-))

WHY AM I STAYING ?

Why am I staying? Even though I think they took out almost all the money (maybe I am wrong, who knows), and the development prospects are rather unlikely, the tool is still cool and there are a lot of very interesting people on the platform. There is always room to experiment with things, develop your creativity and have fun with new acquaintances around the world.

Do I think DeSo can bounce back? Hey, who knows! The fact is I strive to do my bit every day to the best of my bipolar ability.

#016 (Dec. 2021) How to make a video to promote DeSo and earn referral$

The best way to make money with DeSo's referral program is through videos that explain the benefits of decentralized social networking and include your referral link in the description.

Last month, @FastFreddie, a member of the DeSo Foundation, announced the launch of the Youtube Video Contest, a video contest designed to explain and promote DeSo.
About twenty Desonians took part in this competition.

We asked them to tell us the secrets of their videos.

Matreshka: DeSo explained by some of the trusted creators and their perspective

@Matreshka: I wanted to present videos about DeSo by some of the trusted creators and their perspective. So getting a few of them together to create a series of videos for future DeSo users felt important. THe most difficult part was to get people together as our schedules are all different and time zones are far and wide. So instead of my initial vision of doing one video with segments from OGs it turned into series. FF gave us a few ideas on what they want to see in the videos. And of course I also wanted to add the topics that are highly important for me and many other users on the platform - community and memes. Memes seem to be one of the best entertainment of DeSo and since joining it I myself became a memer and now spend every thursday night at @streamclout at 7 pm PST. [Streamclout is a native live streaming show which organizes Meme battles every Thurs @ 7PM PST].

As for technical side of the videos, I am not video savvy yet. So we just recorded it in the Zoom and uploaded to video. It would have been nice to have someone who can help with editing videos in the future as I am continuing the series.

Matreshka’s videos:

BitCloutPress: why DeSo blockchain is uniquely suited for social media

BitCloutPress: In my video I try to strike at the heart of what makes DeSo distinct and break it down for people simply. Seeing the evolution of understanding of the platform from the first impression, built on misunderstanding and rushing to judgment, followed by offering a thoughtful, nuanced perspective as to why DeSo is uniquely suited--with the blockchain storage capabilities--for a data-heavy social media use case--to scale this use case best when compared to other blockchains. My account seeks to craft long-form written, audio, and video content on DeSo-specific news.

For the technical part, I just used Powerpoint and Zoom. Took about an hour of planning then 25 min of filming then a bit of editing and it was live. Well, I recorded it first entirely on Canva's new presentation wizard but that crashed so I had to film it again, haha. So I jumped over to Zoom, which always makes it easy.

Jody Bossert: The decentralized world is wild and unregulated, much like the animal kingdom

@jodybossert: The concept for The Decentralized Social Zoo (An Intro to DeSo) hit me the morning of my wife's birthday when we were setting out for a family day at the zoo. The decentralized world is wild and unregulated, much like the animal kingdom so I thought this would make for a fun, unique angle. Plus, there are so many great animal NFTs that I knew the video would be a blast to produce. The only problem was that the deadline was about 72 hours away and there was a TON of graphics work to be done!

We have plenty of developers and crypto people on DeSo already, so my hope was to appeal to two particular demographics: the NFT community with an emphasis on easy minting and miniscule gas fees and the general public who simply want to enjoy a social networking experience that is, well, FUN!

To create the video, I began by searching for an Adobe Premiere animal video template on Envato Elements. The only one I could find was an Adobe After Effects file - a program I only had limited experience in. I figured this was the perfect opportunity to officially add Adobe AE to my resume, so to create the story outline, I loaded it into AE, set the length at 90 seconds, and was off and running! With the tight deadline and intense workload in mind, a short 90 second video seemed most achievable. Plus, I felt it would be easily shareable and worth a quick view for people. I then considered what NFTs were available that matched my footage and came up with titles for each scene. Next, I jumped over to Photoshop to cut out the NFTs from their backgrounds, animated those characters in Adobe Premiere, then added them back to the AE template. I then exported that final video over to Premiere once again to add audio, starting with a music track found on Envato Elements.  Due to my rushed nature, I was totally backwards in my approach and didn't actually write the script until the very last step. I only had about 10 seconds to discuss each scene's topic so many of my animal jokes and finer details about DeSo's technology didn't make the cut.

My challenges were twofold. First, AE proved extra challenging and time-consuming to learn. Second, I was up against a tight deadline. As a matter of fact, I did miss the deadline which I thought was 11:59pm on November 30th. I was running behind and committed to creating a quality video for the community so in the final few hours I decided to skip the contest, take my time, and do it right. On December 1st however, I realized there was still time so I put my head down and got to work!

Although the final product still has more of a rushed feel than I would like, hopefully I was able to convey the beautiful world that is our DeSo zoo and people are quick to ape in!

Nataliart: Video in NFT format

@NataliartThe original idea for this video was for everyone to tell on camera why they love Deso and stay there. And, honestly, we made such a video, and it came out very long. But then we decided not to do it like everyone else. The main idea was to make it look like a commercial, and the goal was for the video to be under 1 minute.

Briefly talk about the benefits of the platform and entice the viewer not only with words, but also with pictures.

We believe that we are the only ones who made it in the format of the platform, that is, in nft format. It was a labor-intensive amount of work. It takes me about three days to create one nft. And here we have seven different nfts and plus Nader's nft that I put at the beginning.

I made this video in two sleepless days since we made the decision to enter the contest late.

Although we didn't get the most views on YouTube, our video post on DeSo got the most likes, diamonds and reposts.

It was a cool experience and we are very grateful to everyone who supported us.

Barry Mode: getting my YouTube followers to join DeSo

@BarryMode: Basically, I used referrals as an incentive to try to get my YouTube followers to join DeSo, after explaining to them a little about it. What made mine different from others is I was offering them content they could access with a DeSo account on my website. I’ve implemented “login with DeSo” by using the WordPress plugin, CloutFire. It was a cross between DeSo and my YouTube channel and I hope it will serve as a new on-ramp for more people.

From script to finish, it took about 7-8 hours. The website portion that I used in the video was months of prep work because I built the CloutFire plugin first before using it on my website. Then the content on the website itself (like the UI, the audio player, and linking up my music) took another month or so because I was doing this in my spare time.

I was planning to make this anyway, but it coincided with that contest really nicely.

Brian Meeks: a tutorial where I walked my friend Sherri through BitClout / DiamondApp / NachoAverage and Stetnode

@MeeksThe first 41-seconds I created with stock photos, mostly from iStockPhoto with a couple from Adobe's stock platform. I have subscriptions.

The copy for the first part I wrote in Word and then went to find the images I thought worked best. What's nice about the stock sites is one can download a watermarked version first.
With those I built out the video and only after I liked the results, did I go back and license each image. Or so I thought!
The 41-second video was up for a bit alone and someone pointed out that one of the images still had the watermarks. Ugh.
I had bought the image, uploaded into Camtasia 2020 (the video editing software I used for the project) but I had not swapped it out.
It was an easy fix and the short $DeSo ad video was done.

The remaining 23-minutes was a tutorial where I walked my friend Sherri (@ShareWellSHERRI) through BitClout / DiamondApp / NachoAverage and Stetnode.

We've been friends for 35-years and I've been teasing my 4985 FB friends about this "new platform" since October. Whenever they DM me, I give them a referral link and offer to help them understand the basics.
When it was Sherri's turn, because I knew she would, throughout the lesson hit me with some great puns, as she is wont to do, I asked her if we could record it.
Sherri has modeled and acted, so being on camera is something she's comfortable with and I thought it turned out great.

The post-production work on that part of the video took about 6-hours, while the 41-second section took 5-hours.

All-in-all, I was happy with the end result.

I've been sharing it heavily in my two Facebook Author groups (12,000 authors) and it's been well received.

I truly believe this platform is the future, so making videos like this one seems like a good use of my time.

And the channel it runs on, KoalaTBooks is part of a new SECRET startup project I'm working on with @chriscelaya and @Sandirose.

CloutForum: the difference between teaching online to an existing audience and creating a YouTube Promo video

@CloutForumWith the sudden announcement of the DeSo video Competition and the prize money, Alex and Mark both realized they had an incredible opportunity to showcase their CloutForum project with a solid chance of securing the $DeSo to support our upcoming launch!

Video Entry 1/2 - 14:25 length
Decentralized Facebook?! Can a Decentralized Social Blockchain save the Metaverse?

With @AlexRokin flat out working on a secret yet very exciting new NFT project, @MarkBentley took the lead in the initial video with a vision to capture the bigger picture of why DeSo?

The first take was brutal, with Mark Bentley discovering the difference between teaching online to an existing audience and creating a YouTube Promo video that would keep the new viewers' short attention span engaged.

After some very solid yet ego bruising feedback from his nearest and dearest friends, Mark brushed off his shoulders and cut out everything he could find that was not essential, then spent over 200 takes to get one that flowed from start to finish!

Many hours were then spent researching/learning everything he could find on SEO for YouTube while Alex took over and shared the Video everywhere he could, throughout the centralized Social Media world to help get traction.

Video Entry 2/2 - 0:46 Length
Deso Teaser/The Answer to Meta?!

After seeing the high energy levels of @HighKey when they brought out their entry, Alex quickly recognised the need for a much punchier/shorter promo teaser video and set to work spending many long hours searching the internet for the perfect After Effects Template/Music.

Having done the hard work in gathering the framework and resources to put the video together, Alex then sent it all over to Mark who proceeded to download and learn a masterclass in video editing to stitch the vision all together!

Word on the CloutForum street is Mark came very close to quiting Adobe many times in his 48 hour intense deep dive before eventually breaking through and creating the video in time to support the first video entry SEO and engagement.

The $1000usd of $DeSo winnings were received with sincere gratitude and invested immediately into the @CloutForum coin! (Watch out for big announcements soon!)

Philippe Meunier: how to enroll people who are not into crypto

@PhilippeMeunier: Since the launching of Bitclout, I have tried to convince my friends to join the platform but I soon realized that hardly any of them were interested in crytos. So I decided not to talk to them about crypto anymore but only about the fact that they can make money. It was then that they started to get interested. I shared this message with my referral link on other social networks, especially on Facebook where I am quite active and I quickly gathered dozens of subscriptions.

When the video contest was launched, I shared the same message but on video.

Since I am not comfortable speaking in front of a camera, and English is not my native language, I opted to make animated videos with AI voice.

I made two videos.

The first one titled « Would you like to get paid for your posts?" And the second, "The 4 Ways to Make Money on DeSo". These are short animated videos of about a minute.

So far about 60 people have signed up using my referral link.

I have created my Youtube channel where I’ll be publishing DeSo videos regularly, in English, French and Portuguese.
